30th April. Jon Clarke will sit out the next two matches after being unable to overturn the decision of being found guilty of striking with his forearm during his side's 30-22 home defeat by St Helens. Clarke's appeal was heard this evening.
Jon Clarke was found guilty of striking during Wire's 30-22 home defeat by St Helens, he was suspended for 2 games.
Huddersfield coach Jon Sharp has picked out Adrian Morley as the main threat to his team at the Millenium Stadium. Sharp said: "The Wolves are littered with international players which make them a threat all round the park but the man who is making them tick at the moment is Adrian Morley. "He's been in great form this season. His powerful running gives the Wolves great go-forward and his experience in both the engage Super League and in Australia rubs off on his teammates. "If you take all that into consideration and then look at the rest of the Warrington team with such quality players hooker Jon Clarke and Australian halfback Michael Monaghan it gives them power, pace and real football ability. advertisement "That means we'll have to be on top of our game at Cardiff."
26th April. Warrington 22-St Helens 30. Matt King and Kevin Penny clicked together at last as Penny won Man of the Match from the Wire Sponsors as he scored 3 tries had one disallowed for a bizarre forward pass decision by Ref Ashley Clown and failed to catch another whilst clear for the line, The Wolves looked to have taken control with Penny's third score just after the break while Jon Clarke added another. But Saints fought back and two tries from Clough and one from Gardner in the final 25 minutes sealed a dramatic win.Saints started quickly and could have scored on their first possession as Jason Cayless was held over the line. But Wolves hit back and were rewarded when a weaving run from Chris Riley was followed by a combination between Michael Monaghan and Matt King, which put Penny over. Warrington coach Paul Cullen:"You've really got to appreciate the effort and attitude of your players, I thought that was fantastic today."We are never going to scrape a win against a St Helens side that doesn't turn up, we have got to try to outplay St Helens."I thought that attitude tonight was there for all to see. We really took the game to them." Attn:13,024

24th April. On the Leigh Game Cull Said "We're a little disappointed that it wasn't 28-0 at half time. There was a great play started and almost finished by Jon Clarke when we went through five or six pairs of hands down the right edge and Clarkey had his ankles tapped going over the try line and lost the ball in goal. "That would have got us to 22-0 then there was a brilliant kick from Lee Briers that was caught and grounded by Michael Monaghan to be ruled a no try quite bizarrely by the officials. "We would have gone in 28-0 at half time with a completely different perspective on the game. But it wasn't to be. "Second half I thought we were a little bit loose when we came out, didn't complete, kick and chase and we started a fight with Leigh that they were quite willing to get involved in."
Limited amount of tickets remain for Friday's home match against St Helens. Wolves only have single seats left to sell , while around 200 tickets remain in the South Stand and the West Stand is also nearing its capacity. Tickets can be purchased at the Wolfware shop or via the ticket hotline on 0871 622 1879.
THE RFL have taken the decision to close the Millennium Stadium roof for Millennium Magic weekend. Even though there was glorious sunshine during the inaugural Millennium Magic weekend in Cardiff last May, the roof was shut in a bid to enhance the atmosphere. The roof will again be closed this year when Wolves take on Huddersfield on Saturday, May 3, at 3pm. Closing the Millennium Stadium roof will safeguard the playing surface and prevent supporters from getting soaked in the event of heavy rain. It will also prevent supporters sitting in certain positions suffering from sunstroke if the weather is good during the weekend. A number of supporters did suffer in this way during the 2004 and 2005 Challenge Cup Finals In addition, the RFL has also issued a circular to all clubs informing them that the closure of the roof will create an increased level of moisture on the stadium's playing surface and all players have been advised to wear long studs in their boots. An RFL spokesman said: "We believe the closure of the Millennium Stadium roof will significantly enhance the noise levels during the whole weekend. "It will add tremendously to what will be a carnival atmosphere in Cardiff and increase supporters' enjoyment of the whole experience as well as protecting them from the elements."

20th April. Leigh 16 - Warrington 28.The Wire had lost their last three games but they had too much class for the National League One side. The Super League side lead 16-0 at half-time with John Clarke, Chris Riley and Chris Hicks touching down to make sure they were not the victims of a Cup upset. Leigh made a determined start to the second half with Ian Watson scoring a try and converting himself to cut the deficit to just 10. But they failed to capitalise on some good chances and Warrington sealed their win with a further two tries from Kevin Penny and Paul Rauhihi, while Hicks kicked four goals from five attempts. Mike Morrison scored Leigh's second try in the dying minutes, Watson again converting. Cull said: "We needed to be in the bag for the next round and not pick any injuries and fortunately for us that was the case. "It's always going to be a little bit tasty when you come to Leigh with them having so many ex-Warrington players in their ranks. Leigh gave us a tough battle and unfortunately we gave them too much ball."

17th April. Lee Briers is expected to return to the team at Leigh this weekend, Also Wolves back rower Ben Westwood returns after serving a one-match suspension Benny's back Despite the return of two key personnel Warrington are likely to be without nine members of their first team squad with the news that captain Adrian Morley (thigh) is doubtful, alongside Stuart Reardon and Paul Johnson (both hamstring). They are joined in the treatment room by Steve Pickersgill (knee), Chris Bridge (achilles) and Paul Wood (shoulder); Lee Mitchell is on leave with the Army. Michael Cooper and Simon Grix have both begun light training following their ankle injuries but are not yet ready to return. Paul Cullen refuses to be downcast over the recent form of the team speaking to the Warrington Guardian he said, "I'm not frustrated by the criticism. It's never been an issue for me, it isn't now and it never will be. "I refuse to lose focus and I refuse to be broken by anyone under any circumstances. "My work this week has been thoroughly enjoyable. We've shifted our venue back to Leigh so we could get on a good training field. "One or two players have responded well from that. "We've had some good conditioning and skills sessions. "I think it's probably obvious to anyone who knows anything about rugby league that we have a number of players that are not in good form. If that is my responsibility, so be it. "It's about focus. Michael Monaghan has trained very well this week along with Lee Briers. We've looked very structured. Jon Clarke and Vinnie Anderson have trained well. "I thought Adrian Morley, Paul Rauhihi and Rob Parker were absolutely outstanding at Leeds and didn't deserve to be on a losing side. Our pack has worked manfully in every game we've played. We just need to give them better reward for all their hard work." "What we need to do is support the individual players who are going to turn it around and get their form back. It's common sense. Players who are short on confidence need support, they need to be protected, they need to work on their skills in a positive environment. "That's what we've provided." Briers set to return but Morley is a doubt .
Ticket News. Ticket sales are going very well for Sunday's last ever clash between Leigh and Warrington Wolves at Hilton Park. Warrington Wolves are offering their season ticket holders 50% off the advertised prices on tickets purchased at The Halliwell Jones Stadium, meaning a family of four season ticket holders can watch the game for as little as £17! (2x Adults@£7 and 2x Children @ £1.50 each, Concessions are priced at £3.75). 15th April. The RFL video panel have decided that Adrian Morley has no case to answer for an alleged strike with the foot during Wolves' defeat at Leeds on Friday.
12th April. Leeds 32 Warrington 12.Michael Monaghan put Louis Anderson in to open the scoring before Donald's brace either side of the break. Leeds capitalised when Jon Clarke was sin-binned for dissent and Carl Ablett went over for their third try. Monaghan set up Chris Hicks to score before Rob Burrow and Luke Burgess tries, converted by Kevin Sinfield, who kicked six out of six, sealed things. Wolves boss Paul Cullen said: "Paul Johnson pulled his hamstring in the warm-up and Stuart Reardon had a reoccurrence of his hamstring injury from previous weeks."
Paul Cullen: "It was a better performance than the last two weeks. It was a really decent defensive effort but we fell away in the avalanche of penalties. The volume of possession in favour of Leeds broke our back. "There was a spell in the third quarter when we didn't touch the ball for 10 or 12 minutes."

April.10 Cull says that discipline at the club is not affecting recent results, He said: "The irony is our penalty count has dropped alarmingly. "We've gone from 20 penalties to the mid-teens, and now we're down to six and seven. "We had Benny Westwood sin-binned for being offside on Sunday and he quite clearly wasn't, although he was sent off correctly because he committed a high tackle. advertisement "Discipline is not an issue. "We'd like no penalties but to go through a game in these conditions and only give away six is a decent effort under the new modern circumstances. "Discipline wasn't an issue at Wakefield other than that one high tackle from Benny Westwood.
Tommy Martyn joins Warrington Former St Helens stand-off Tommy Martyn has joined the coaching staff of engage Super League neighbours Warrington. The 36-year-old ex-Ireland player has been working as a kicking coach for the Wolves academy players on a trial period, and will now link up with the club permanently on a part-time basis. First-team coach Paul Cullen told the Warrington Guardian: "We've been very impressed with the work he's done."
Paul Wood speaking to the Warrington Guardian on his injury said: "It's coming on really well, better than how I thought it would actually. "It's been five weeks now since the injury and I think the initial diagnosis after seeing the specialist was it could be between 12 and 14 weeks. That's how long you're normally out for. "But it feels really strong and I might be ahead of schedule really. advertisement "I want to come back as quick as I can but I'm not going to rush anything and I'm going to make sure I'm 100 per cent right. It's just a case of doing my rehabilitation strength-wise. "I get assessed every week by the physio and Nick Forrester from the club. They're really pleased with where I'm at and they said they can see the strength in it has improved immensely. "It doesn't look like it's full strength but there's a couple of exercises and things they want to do with me before I actually come back and play. "At the moment I'm not doing anything game-related so you can only tell when they you start doing that sort of stuff. "But at the moment everyone's pleased with where I'm up to and hopefully I can come back and there'll be no problems with it. "I've not picked out any game for my return or put a time schedule on it, though. "I've got to know within myself that I'm going to be right. "Hopefully I can come back with a decent part of the season left but the improvement can change from week to week and it's just a case of assessing it and seeing when it is right. "I do see the specialist on Friday, though, and he should give me a better idea of where I'm at."
Steve Pickersgill has been ruled out for six months with an anterior cruciate ligament injury. Pickersgill was carried off midway through the second half in Sunday's defeat at Wakefield and tests have now revealed serious damage to his knee. The 22-year-old will undergo a full reconstruction of the knee and will be out for a 'minimum' of six months. Meanwhile, luckless fellow prop Paul Wood hopes to be back within two months after his latest shoulder injury. In his first game back after six months out after a shoulder reconstruction, Wood, 26, suffered a dislocation against Catalan Dragons last month. But Wood, who has already been under the knife four times, does not need another operation and hopes to be back in first team action within two months. "I want to come back as quick as I can," said Wood. "But I'm not going to rush it." As for Pickersgill, Warrington coach Paul Cullen has admitted that they will have to be patient. "He's seen the specialist," said Cullen. "And he is now waiting for his operation."

Ben Westwood has been given a one-match ban by the Rugby Football League after being sent off against Wakefield. The 26-year-old saw red for a reckless high tackle against his former club. An RFL disciplinary panel also fined him £300 over the incident and he will miss their next game, against Leeds. But Adrian Morley is free to face the Rhinos despite being found guilty of a careless high tackle in the same game, as the panel chose to take no action.
Steve Pickersgill will be out for six months after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury at Wakefield on Sunday.
6th April. Wakefield (10) 16 Warrington (2) 2 Grim game,Warrington missed the chance to go second in the table as they fell to defeat in a scrappy match at Wakefield and also had Ben Westwood sent off. A Chris Hicks penalty put Warrington ahead but Danny Brough levelled with a penalty before Scott Grix went over in the corner for the opening try. Brough slotted two more penalties in the first half as Wakefield dominated. After the break Sam Obst went over and Brough added the extras before Westwood was dismissed for a high tackle. The second row had only just returned to the field after spending time in the sin-bin following persistent infringements in the first half. Wakefield pair Tony Martin and Jamie Rooney were also sent to the sin-bin in the opening period.
Paul Cullen: "We have again paid the ultimate price for failing to control the ball. "The individual errors that we have committed are really detracting from the work we want to do. "Wakefield's completion rate was better than ours, their kicking game was better than ours, their field position was better than ours.

3rd April. Speaking to the Warrington Guardian Paul Cullen on the defeat by Quins, He said: "There were no excuses. That was a poor performance. "We've won two games over Easter as a group and we've lost one five days afterwards as a group. "It would be very wrong to isolate individuals for poor performances but that was the bottom line in this one. "We are as a group very disappointed that some of us didn't get to their previous high levels. "But public floggings don't work. "This is a team and a group and we have to work together. "There were some real genuine efforts from the majority of our players to get from A to B. "The defence looked competent and in fact.did far more work than it needed to, which has been a concern of ours for a while. Our completion rate was absolutely awful, which means the players are using all their energy trudging up and down in defence. "We gifted them two points from a penalty and six from an intercepted try. Our line never looked threatened because we were working so hard in defence all the way through the game. "We have spent a considerable amount of time trying to tighten up our defensive effort but unfortunately we wasted the good field position we had. A number of individuals were trying too hard to correct mistakes that had been made and it didn't pay off" He added He said: "There has been a genuine disappointment within our group about how we've not completed sufficiently enough to score more points, althougb we have a very good offensive record, or defended well enough to prevent sides getting back in at us. "Although our league position I'm sure is reasonable, we haven't spent a second of our time worrying about it. It's been about our performances."
