31st May. Mike Wainwright is of the opinion that the blame for recent poor performances should not be laid at the door of coach Paul Cullen, speaking to the Warrington Guardian he said "I definitely think the fans need to be patient with him. I don't think there's any reason why Paul Cullen should bear the brunt of anything. "The fans have put their point across about how they've felt about the last few games, which is understandable. I'm from Warrington and I'm a Warrington fan so I know how disappointing it is, but you can't just blame one person. "Paul makes signings and picks the team, then it's up to the guys to perform for him." Defensive frailties are a reason he puts forward for much of the problem, and he likened the situation now to the playoffs last year when an unfancied Wire beat Leeds in the playoffs, he added He said: "Paul was down after Monday's game and so were all the lads. I don't think the fans realise sometimes how hard it hits the players to lose a game. "We're not performing as a team, our confidence is low and we're not up where we thought we were going to be but we can't panic too much because we're only two points off being back in the top six. "The only people that are going to lift it and get UK out of this crisis are the players who take the field. "Going into the play-off game last year, no-one gave us a chance of winning. It just shows that you're just one performance away from turning things around. That's what we'll be looking at doing tomorrow."
Paul Cullen is as determined as ever to get Warrington back to where he thinks they belong ie in the top half of the Super League table. He told the Warrington Guardian, He said: "I'm under pressure and have been since 2003 when I got a very ordinary side into the top six, It goes with the territory. "When you're in a situation like that people take liberties and that's a fact of life. "We've already started the preparation for the Leeds game and that's where my focus is. "We're at the wrong end of the table. We want to be in the top four not the bottom four. But the fight's still there for the six and that's what we've got to keep our focus on. "And I'm as determined this week as I was last week. "I thought we saw a very decent response in the first half against St Helens. "Working that dynamic of having all your players at the right levels of recovery and fitness at the right time is eluding us at this moment in time. "But you've got one option, which is to keep on at it."

28th May. Warrington started very well and took the lead with a Vinnie Anderson try, St Helens levelled before a well worked kick from Lee Briers gave fa'afilli a good try. SEE PICTURES.. The Wire fell apart in the second half with some sloppy play and careless ball retention and suffered the consequences against a Saints side who do not give second chances .
Warrington coach Paul Cullen: "The first 40 minutes was very good, second was not, and it is very simple really. "We moved away from the formula which worked so well the first 40 minutes but there was a drain of confidence and energy when the ball hit the floor. "The plan was evident in the first 40 minutes but it was not executed. One or two players were carried away by the success of the first 40 minutes."

24th May. Simon Grix could be back playing in the next few weeks however Paul Cullen expects that he will be playing under 21 rugby for a while due to his time out of the game with injuries. He said, The 21-year-old suffered nerve damage after his second operation but Paul Cullen said: "He's gone through a reassessment and his return may be in the next week or so. "But I think he will play in the under 21s for a considerable period because it's been almost 12 months since he's played." On Lee Briers he told the Warrington Guardian "Lee Briers is carrying a couple of injuries and I think that was very evident at the weekend," said the Wolves boss. "He wasn't on the top of his game and I think it's very evident that we are over reliant on his kicking game, leadership, direction and prompts for our movement. "When it's not working for him, it doesn't work for us and I don't think there'll ever be a more clear example of that than at the weekend."
Wire have confirmed that they are looking to sign another player for the 2008 season, and with 10 players at the end of their contract a few will be looking over their shoulders , one such player is Chris Leikvoll who is hoping to get another year at the club before retiring. Said Cullen "Realistically we're looking for at least one other player but a lot of players at this club are playing for their futures." He added: "A lot of personnel players and coaching staff have an awful lot riding on the next few games." Speaking to the Warrington Guardian Chris said "I'd like to go around again, "If I could get another year I'd love it. I enjoy playing for the club but at this stage I'm just worrying about putting in some good performances and getting a win for us. "I think both parties know that I want to go around again but it's only the early stages. "If I'm playing good football at the end of the year and all's well and good, then I can't see why not. "Generally I thought I started the season pretty well, although I'm always looking to improve and I got a real kick in the gut getting a bit of a hamstring strain. "Saturday was only my third game back and it takes a bit of time to get back to speed but I'm feeling a lot better now. "We've got to start winning some games because if we can't get the job done, the club are going to be looking for other people to do it. "All we can do is start winning games and all I can do is do my job. "If I do that and we're winning games, we'll look at that later on down the track."

21st May. Morley no case to answer .The Warrington prop was placed on report by referee Ben Thaler for an alleged high tackle on substitute Julien Rinaldi in the Wolves' 17-4 home defeat by Harlequins on Saturday. The League's video review panel today decided that Morley has no case to answer.
19th May. Warrington 4 Harlequins 17 Coach Paul Cullen "We are very disappointed we couldn't deliver. We were very ordinary. I didn't think we worked hard enough to try and break through and push Harlequins back at all and ultimately paid the price."We were very flat. We couldn't find sufficient energy to get from one end of the field and come up with a kicking game that was going to put some pressure on Harlequins."We sent them all the wrong signals very early and they got a smell and a sniff that we weren't quite right. It's very difficult to take.

17th May. Paul Cullen hopes to get the team back to the expansive style of play that they were endeavouring to embark on before horredous injury problems set in.Speaking to the Warrington Guardian he said.Cullen said: "I think the Salford game was only possibly the third chance to use that style. advertisement "The form of Adrian Morley has been a factor in that. If you think of Wigan, Hull KR and Bradford , there were clear signals in there of the way we want to go forward. "I think in all of those three games and then the fourth against Salford at Cardiff, that dynamic aggressive go forward was there for all to see and Jon Clarke had a field day on the back of it. "Jon Clarke's been excellent for us all year and he was even better against Salford because of the way that we made good ground. "We've seen free running from our half backs and three-quarters because our forwards have made good ground. "We hope we can stay in the position where we can actually utilise the talent we’ve brought in" Paul Cullen "They've been dominant and very aggressive and we also controlled everything that Salford threw at us. "Once you've got that seniority back and that dominance, you can exploit the talent that we've purposely brought to the club. "There were good signals of the style of football that we spoke about pre-Wigan. "It was there against Wigan and we've stuttered because we've lost those quality players at various points. "We've purposely brought these players in to play to that standard and that style of football. "We now think we're in that position and we hope we can stay in the position where we can actually utilise the talent we've brought in. "When we're discussing the standard of players we've got, to use them you've got to have them on the field. "If you take five or six of that team away we wouldn't be anywhere near that standard because that's the quality of the guys we've got. "We've almost been victims of our own plans. I'd defy anyone to tell me that Adrian Morley, Vinnie Anderson, Paul Johnson, a fully fit Lee Briers, for example, don't improve your team out of sight. "If you take those away under no circumstances can you be as good. "There was a return to confidence at Bradford because 18-18 at half time with a massive penalty count against us was a decent effort. "The players were better for that experience, as proven against Salford. "We'd like to think we can go on a run, keep those players on the field and keep improving that fluency in the game and on the training field."
Michael Sullivan will be out for at least another month after having his Ankle cleaned out. Chris Bridge is not to be considered for the team until medical staff give the go ahead , Cullen says that the player needs time to get over his polyproblematic injury set backs.
Mike Cooper came out of intensive care on Monday and is now in he HDU , well he is in very good hands in that unit I remember spending a few weeks in there myself when my lungs refused to function wonderful staff and a really cheery place because in there you are on the mend.
15th May.Warrington have beaten Super League rivals Hull to the signature of Australian half-back Michael Monaghan. The Wolves have signed the 26-year-old on a four-year contract from Manly Sea Eagles which starts in 2008. Monaghan has made 109 appearances in the NRL, initially with Canberra, before joining Manly in 2003. "Michael's ability, ambition, mental toughness and maturity are assets which will be of great service to our club," said Warrington coach Paul Cullen. Hull made their move for Monaghan after controversially losing Paul Cooke to rivals Hull KR. But the player opted for the Halliwell Jones Stadium after speaking to Warrington's former Sydney Roosters forward Adrian Morley and former Australia captain Andrew Johns, who had a brief spell with the Wolves two years ago. "When I made the decision to come overseas to carry on my footie, I spoke with Adrian Morley and Andrew Johns and I liked the sound of the set-up at Warrington," he said. "It is a club with a positive future and I wanted to be part of that." Monaghan, who is expected to replace fellow Australian Michael Sullivan on the overseas quota, will join loose-forward Louis Anderson, the younger brother of current Wolves star Vinnie, at the club next season. The Manly half-back has played all of 2007 as hooker and had been touted for rep honours as the Blues eserve hooker.Monaghan's junior club was Tuggeranong Buffaloes and his preferred position is halfback. His previous club was the Canberra Raiders (2001-2003). His younger brother Joel Monaghan plays for the Sydney Roosters. He made his 1st Grade debut with the Raiders V the Cronulla Sharks June 16, 2001.Michael has done a lot of work with charity and therefore bonded with little Sophie Delezio.Michael has had to make the change to Hooker in the 2006 season due to the purchase of Matt Orford from the Melbourne storm.AWARDS: 2006 Ken Stephen award.

Mike Cooper is showing the first signs of recovery and it is hoped that he will be moved from ICU later today. Mike fractured his tibia and fibula in the U18s match against Salford City Reds on the 5th May at Wilderspool, he underwent surgery on the 6th May and suffered complications which resulted in pneumonia and he has remained in ICU at Warrington General since then. Mike Sullivan will undergo surgery later today on his ankle that he injured in the Carnegie Challenge Cup Round 4 v Hull KR on the 31st March. Mike's recovery plateau and the surgeons have decided he needs a scope and a clean out of the ankle. Apparent from that the Wolves have a clean bill of health for the 18 players who took on Barrow in the Carnegie Challenge Cup Round 5 match yesterday. Paul Wood, who has been sidelined since the Carnegie Challenge Cup Round 4 match v Hull KR on the 31st March, has a good chance of being included in the squad for this weekend's Engage Super League Round 14 match against Harlequins.source wolfweb

Speaking to the Warrington Guardian Paul Cullen said: "We have no plans to rest players at all because we need fluency and rhythm in our game. "We've not had that for a con- -siderable period because of the injuries to the players. "I thought that four-man unit of scrum half, stand off, loose forward and hooker - Lee Briers, Vinnie Anderson, Mike Wainwright and Jon Clarke -went very well against Salford. "That constant, where the other players can get their timing and rhythm off that group, is very important. "Rhythm and fluency is something we've got to improve on and the only way we can do that is by continually playing it. "You have to fully respect any team that are winning games but the bottom line is if we put the same 17 out and play to anywhere near the standard we did against Salford, we should be safely in the bag for the next round. "Our focus is on fluency and rhythm as much as anything else." Michael Sullivan (ankle) and Andy Bracek (shoulder) are unlikely to figure the game, Chris Bridge and Simon Grix are still injured. French official Thierry Alibert will officiate at the game.

A very difficult season to judge says Simon Moran speaking in the Warrington Guardian "The injuries have been crippling really," he said. "Everyone gets injuries but not most of the team and it's definitely had an impact on things. "We would have been fourth rather than third from bottom if we'd had one more win. "We've had four youngsters in and it's very difficult against some teams. But I"know the fans will support us. Most realise we've had players missing and are realistic about it. "Players are coming back now and hopefully they'll make a difference."It has been difficult to assess the season really but we've got some games coming up that we can win and we will only really be able to make a judgement after that."
Paul Cullen is out of contract at the end of the year along with several players, we are talking to Paul Cullen said Moran " I know he is keen to stay and we are pleased with what he has done. Players would be segned for the club as and when they are available and are what the club needs he did confirm that the club are on the look out for a half back, any players signed will be of international standard.
Ist May. Adrian Morley has been cleared by the RFL to play against Salford on Sunday after being put on report in the game against Bradford.
