31st March. Warrington 38 Hull KR 10. Warrington coach Paul Cullen admitted his side were nervous but was delighted with the win."There was a definite air of tension, that was visible and very obvious," he said. "It was a game Hull KR could afford to lose and we couldn't - that was written all over the first half."We went into the game a little bit bust up and intended to be a little bit conservative and we overplayed it. There were a couple of incidents, I will comb through them and put a montage together.

26 Kevin Penny26th March. Latest. The club confirmed on Wednesday that Cullen had returned to work and would coach the Wolves in their game against their Super League rivals.
Paul Cullen could miss Challenge Cup match against Hull KR on Saturday after taking time off for personal reasons according to the BBC rugby league web site it says that Paul asked for time off on Tuesday. In the meantime, training has been taken by Cullen's assistants Paul Darbyshire and Dave Elliott. "He asked for time off to deal with a private family issue - we're taking it one day at a time," said a spokeswoman.
26th March. Paul Johnson has a broken finger which he picked up at Wakefield on Sunday, he is likely to miss up tp 6 weeks. Slighty better news for Adrian Morley he does not need another plate in his face after his second facial injury, the surgeon was able to replace the bone negated the need for a plate, out for up to 4 weeks.
25th March. Wakefield Trinity 30 Warrington 24. Coach Cullen "We've come up with too many mistakes and that's what has cost us. "At 24-16 our composure wasn't good enough to secure the win. There was enough effort and enough skill, but not enough composure. "Our preparation and thought process is now geared towards beating Hull Kingston Rovers in the Challenge Cup next weekend."

22nd March.Bottles Flasks and Cans will no longer be allowed into the Stadium on match, this decision follows a bottle throwing incident at the Stadium recently.
Paul Cullen is hopeful that Chris Bridge will be back for the televised game against Wakefield Trinity on Sunday night KO 6.05. Lee Briers will not be ready also Adrian Morley . "Last year's injury crisis has hardened us," Paul Cullen said. "The injuries this year have been quite freakish and have come from nowhere. "If it wasn't for bad luck we wouldn't have any luck at all at this moment in time."But that does only one thing, it just hardens our resolve and creates a siege mentality in our group, "We have recruited players with versatility because at some point it's going to go wrong and you're going to be tested. "We have lost key players at key points in games and still gone on to win those games. "Going into a game as pressurised as Hull Kingston Rovers without Bridge and Briers could have adversely affected our preparations or the mental toughness of any number of our individuals, but that wasn't the case." It is still undecided as to the starting line up, Chris Bridge could start Anderson will revert to loose forward and Jon Clarke who received rave reviews staying at scrum half . Chris Bridge could take over the goal kicking after 3 players were tried against Hull KR.
Adrian Morley will not be back early from his latest injury , the bang on the face he received was on the plate in his face which resulted in a further break along the line of the plate, he is expected to have surgery before the end of this week.Cullen told the Warrington Guardian "He will go the full course of six weeks on this one, which should allow him to return for Warrington versus Salford at Cardiff (on May 6), if not then the next round of the Challenge Cup if that's the way it presents," said Cullen. "He came back early but all paperwork is absolutely 100 per cent with written clearance from all medics involved - surgeon, doctor and physios. He came back after four weeks and three days. "They are not the same injury and are not in thes ame place, although they are very close. "The odds of that happening are quite unbelievable but that's what has happened. He's absolutely gutted but he has not mentioned himself in any way shape or form. "He's so disappointed that the team and the supporters have lost out because of his injury. "But he can deliver for us over three years, it doesn't have to be three months."

15th March. Speaking to the Warrington Guardian Paul Cullen said "Hull KR came from behind to beat Leeds so we are not the only team they have done it to," said Cullen."They have learned how to play their own game, which is completion."Once a side shows you some disrespect, which means they give you cheap ball, they grind away, work at the ruck, turn you over and make you go all the way back and start again."Invariably what happens then is that teams start pushing even more passes, which makes it even worse. That's what we have to prevent."We go into this game looking forward to what is going to be a very tough competition."Hull Kingston Rovers don't fade away. They're not going anywhere."They're going to play this game until the 80th minute and are going to fight for every scrap of ground."Although we've had two poor last quarters, against Bradford and St Helens, in our three wins we've gone all the way to the 80th minute and had to do to win all of those games."We had to defend manfully against Wigan, we needed a drop goal to win against Hull in the 79th minute and against Harlequins we were battling away in the final seconds of that game to make sure they didn't come back at us."We've been there, we're accustomed to it and we know full well that's the way it's going to go this week."I am the least surprised person in Super League , they are a very well drilled unit."They've beaten Wigan at the JJB and they've beaten Leeds. That's a massive achievement and I'm not surprised by that in any way, shape or form."We've discussed the stats and all the whys and wherefores. We've gone through all the Hull KR stats at length."When they return the ball with Ben Cockayne, he's a very aggressive runner and wins his collision."Once they've won the collision they simply pour through. They complete, then they kick and they chase and challenge you to go full length."To be fair it's not dissimilar to Harlequins. We had to be very patient against Harlequins and score some very good tries."Maybe Hull KR do not have that flair in six, seven and 13 to the extent that Harlequins have but once they get fatigue into a side, which they do by completing, they've got enough options to score."The key is we don't want them opening up in our 20, we want them attempting to get the ball out of their 20."
Sheila Roberts or Sheila Shop as she was known in Wolfware died this morning after a short illness I offer my condolences to family and friends , it is a bit more personal for me as she was my nephews mother in law, a really nice lady who was bright and cheerful when ever I met her. Sorely missed.

13th March.Coach Paul Cullen insists The Wire can overcome the loss of talismanic skipper Lee Briers. The 28-year-old Welsh international half-back, who is rated by Cullen as “the smartest player in Super League,” is set for a rare spell on the sidelines after pulling a hamstring in the Wolves’ 48-12 defeat by St Helens last Friday. With stand-off Chris Bridge also very doubtful for Sunday’s home game against high-flying Hull Kingston Rovers, Cullen will most likely need to find a new half-back pairing, in addition to a captain and goalkicker.“The irony is that Lee Briers went into the game carrying a minor groin injury and pulled a hamstring while Chris Bridge went in on the back of a hamstring injury and pulled a groin,” Cullen said.“They’re not massive tears or rips. We are not making any forecasts yet as to how long they’re going to be out but they’re not in the frame for this weekend.“They were not too healthy at the weekend and they’ve not trained in the early part of the week so they are not under consideration, unless there is a bonus at the back end of the week. We’ll consider it then.”Briers, who scored the 2,000th point of his career against St Helens and is fourth in the club’s all-time list of scorers, missed only one Super League match last year, notably a defeat by Salford, but he was also absent when the Wolves suffered a shock Challenge Cup exit at the hands of Hull KR last June.Cullen denies his team are a one-man band, though, and is confident of being able to reshuffle his team to cope without their captain.“We’ll have to do what we did in my first season when we went six months without him,” he said.“We had a winger, Graham Appo, playing at six and we got in the top six on the back of it. So it can be accommodated.“We’ll be looking for minimal changes to the rest of our structure because we’ve got enough work to do to accommodate the absence of not only the tryscoring and goalkicking ability of Lee Briers, but also the way he sets up play.”Cullen may use forwards Jon Clarke and Vinnie Anderson in the half-back role while Michael Sullivan has been practising goalkicking in training
Warrington are hoping to receive a boost with the return of Great Britain forward Adrian Morley. The former Leeds and Sydney Roosters favourite sustained a fractured cheekbone on his debut in the opening-round win at Wigan last month but has been using a hyperbaric chamber to accelerate his recovery and is back in full training.“We’re waiting for absolute medical clearance,” said Cullen. “He’s progressed very well and trained himself very professionally and we’ve just got to make sure, if he doesn’t make it, that it’s not a psychological blow to our team.“We’ll prepare to go into the game without him and it will be a bonus if he’s allowed to play. It will be the surgeon’s decision and we’ll go as long as we can in the week.“He’s training well and taking contact. The vast majority of his work he’s done over the last month has been purely fitness but now he’s working on contact, tackle technique and ball skills.“If he doesn’t make it, he will be good to go against Wakefield the following week. He’s going to make a massive impact when he gets back in a kit but we’re not pinning all our hopes on one individual player.”
Warrington play Hull KR in the 4th round of the Challenge Cup. The game will be played on Saturday March 31st, kick off 2:30pm, at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, and will be the televised match on BBC.
10th March. Warrington 12 St Helens 48. The least said about Ashley Clown the better, but lets face St Helens were absolutely brilliant and I think they would have done to any team what they did to Warrington on Friday night. Paul Cullen remarked "It's been a rough and tough 80 minutes and we've picked up injuries to boot."We're very disappointed the scoreline ran away from us. To compete against, let alone beat, Saints you need to be at your best and at your healthiest."We defended their early blitz really well but what we couldn't handle was the avalanche of penalties and decisions that went against us."The Wolves lost prop Paul Wood and half-backs Lee Briers and Chris Bridge to injury as they crashed to defeat, while Saints go top of the table on points difference.
Wood suffered a recurrence of an old shoulder injury, Briers pulled a hamstring and Bridge - who only last week returned from a pulled hamstring - went off with a groin injury.

6th March. Warrington have announced that the Saints game is sold out.
3rd March. Harlequins Warrington. After a slow start Warrington went 12-0 down but fought back to win 12-19. We learnt lessons from Harlequins in the first 15 minutes and were making passes we had no right to make," said Cullen."If you give them the ball they will make you pay and they did that. But it was a remarkable show of character from my boys yet again."We played some good rugby after the first 15 minutes - we never entered the Quins half until the 17th minute and within 30 seconds of being down there we scored a try.Quins always make you work hard for the win and it's great to go to the top."But I'm not overly concerned with the league table because I'm not overly satisfied with this performance."We'll be working hard on our opening 15 minutes of matches in training this week."

1st March. Chris Bridge is fast recovering from his torn hamstring he was in with an outside chance of playing against London but Paul Cullen said he would not wish to risk such a prize asset as Chris unless the player was 100% . Speaking to the Warrington Guardian Cullen said "Chris is progressing a little bit better than we could possibly have hoped for," said Cullen."We don't think he'll make this weekend. It will be a real bonus if he does but we're not 100 per cent optimistic that he will be available."Because it's a hamstring we've got to be very careful we don't push him back too early.
"But it will be a massive boost when he is back because we've seen nothing of Chris Bridge apart from encouraging displays against Widnes and Salford.
"What we saw in the opening five minutes of round one at Wigan was that he was almost unstoppable."He is a player that owns the number six shirt by right and will be a massive asset to us, as and when he gets back fully fit."
Chris Leikvoll twisted his ankle against Hull but the club are hopeful he will be fit to face london on Saturday at the Twickenham Stoop Vinnie Anderson should be fitter than he was when he played against Hull .Two wins from three is a reasonable start to the campaign But Cullen would have like 3 wins from 3 He said: "We may have considered accepting that if we had been given that before the start of the season but now we're preparing for round four a little bit disappointed we haven't got six from six."But we are very realistic. We as a club have proven that we cannot afford to lose five players in one week but we got two back against Hull and they made a massive difference."Now we're almost desperate to build on our start. We travel to London expecting a very tough battle from Harlequins, who have the meanest defence in Super League after three rounds. 4 "They have a very good disciplinary record and the quickest play-the-ball record from the first three rounds."They are not a side that pushes offloads like St Helens, Hull and Leeds. They grind away, they are the Cliff Thorburns of Super League. They make life very difficult and challenge you to beat them."We know we will have to be at our very best to compete with them."
