30th September. Bradford 40 Warrington 24. Warrington fought back from a deficit of 18 points to take a 22-24 lead, but late tries from Bradford including a farce of a try from Michael Withers to give him his hat trick, thankfully the try never affected the result but it could deny referee Richard Silverwood a Grand Final game. Coach Paul Cullen: "We took everything Bradford had to throw at us and then some, and then ran the legs off them. "Without one knock-on we could still be in, but they're very tight margins. "It was a remarkable effort to come back and we are very proud of that. We just need to work on not letting them get that far ahead to start with.

28th September. Paul Cullen hopes that past results against such as Bradford will help the team overcome the next big hurdle in their quest for Super League glory, beating Leeds last week gives them the chance to be one game away from Old Trafford, and beating Bradford would give them a game against St Helens or Hull and a place in the final.Paul Cullen is convinced taking the big clubs down is a plus when it comes to playing Bradford. "We'd like to think so," Paul said. "In my first full season in 2003 we got into the top six by beating the bottom six on a regular basis. "To get further we knew we had to come up with wins against the so-called big four or five and we would have to do it away from home. "We've achieved that and to win at Bradford, Wigan, Hull and Leeds is a considerable achievement. "We don't feel we've spent too much time looking above us and not concentrating on what's beneath us, although we've been caught out this year by under-par performances against sides in the bottom half. "And without a doubt the feeling of winning a play-off game will spur the players on again at Bradford. "No Warrington side has been in this position before, and there is a steely determination to protect that and go at least one further."

Brent Grose will return for the Bradford game and Chris Leikvoll will have his fitness assessed before the game.Cullen is hopeful that Fa'afilli and Chris Bridge will recover from knocks and will make the Bradford game.

Lee Briers has told the Wire team not to waste the win at Leeds by letting it slipaway at Bradford he said to the Warrington Guardian " I hope I can repeat my performance there has been a lot of publicity but Leeds was just another win to me" he added " I do feel like I am hitting a bit of form and hopefully we will play well at Bradford the Leeds win was a big achievement but it was only a one off game we haven't won anything yet "

21st September. The game at Leeds will decide whether this season has been a success or a failure, that is Paul Cullens take on the year so far, he told the Warrington Guardian "Does tomorrows game decide whether this year has been a success or failure , yes it does". He added that the club are not happy at only making sixth place and with the way they played against St Helens. Finishing sixth only gives you a ticket in the raffle.A play off win would be another step forward and that's what this club is about we are trying to improve ourselves year in year out."But can we turn our season around? Yes we can and we've got one game to do it. "Our finishing position now becomes irrelevant. All we've done is bought a ticket to the raffle. "We wanted at least fourth for the home game or even third but we're now past that and it's all over. "We knew when we hit our mid-season injury crisis that it would be very difficult for us to better last year's finishing position of fourth. "It was then about getting people as healthy and as positive as we can going into this one game. "A play-off win would be another step forward and that's what this club is about. We're not about false hype, we're about trying to improve ourselves year in, year out." "We think we can find some vulnerable edges at Headingley but your passes have got to be good and you've got to hit the holes at the right time, which is what we have spent the week working on." "We think we can produce a shock and if we can win at Leeds, we've beaten Bradford, we've beaten Hull and have got close to St Helens on two occasions this year. "Once you're through the first game anything can happen."

Possible 18-man squad: Henry Fa'afili, Chris Riley, Martin Gleeson, Toa Korie-Love, Richie Barnett, Chris Bridge, Lee Briers, Paul Rauhihi, Michael Sullivan, Paul Wood, Logan Swann, Mike Wainwright, Ben Westwood, Rob Parker, Mark Gleeson, Kevin Penny, Stuart Reardon, Chris Leikvoll.

Mike Gregory - Hall of Fame Warrington Past Players Association are inducting into their Hall of Fame one of the legends of Rugby League, former Warrington and Great Britain Captain Mike Gregory. Mike Gregory epitomises all that is good about our great game and past chairman Nobby Clarke, who sadly passed away recently, instigated Mike's induction into the Hall of Fame and the Past Players' are proud to make this presentation to Sam and Ben Gregory, Mike's sons at Half-time in the final Round of Super League XI against St Helens this Suday. Mike will be in attendance at the match. Mike played loose forward for he club between 1982-1994 making 246 appearances (including subs) scoring 45 tries. He joined the club from Wigan St Patrick's in June 1982 and quickly established himself in the first team winning the Lancashire Cup, the Premiership Trophy in 1986. He scored two tries on his debut for GB v France in 1987 and then went on to be made Warrington Captain in February 1988. He was Warrington's only representative on the 1988 GB Tour to Papua New Guinea playing in all 5 tests. He then went on to captain Warrington to victory in the Lancashire Cup against Oldham in 1989, which led to him being named GB Captain for the series against NZ.

14th September.. Continuing injury concerns are causing problems at the Wire,The problems of which Paul Cullen says are the root cause of Warrington's topsy turvy season show no signs of abating.Chris Leikvoll, Martin Gleeson and Ben Westwood are all doubtful for the Saints game, Paul Cullen said that he was immensely proud of the efforts of the players and coaching staff because we had a lot of serious issues that were kept in house and not made public knowledge. He also revealed that Stuart Reardon saw a specialist last week and it was even suggested that an operation on a dislocated thumd was a possibility and that was before he had what Paul Cullen described as his best game of the year against Hull. Paul Wood and Rob Parker only just made the game and Lee Briers had to have injections for a thumb injury, Paul Wood is also going through the mill and is said to be carrying 6 injuries and add to that that Paul Rauhihi is not fully fit and it puts a different light on Warrington's performances of late.

Rumours persist linking Warrington with various Austarlian players, Adam Dykes and Michael Monaghan being the latest to be linked to the club, although the club as is always the case do not reveal who they are looking at or have signed untill the time is right.

Martin Gleeson scoffed at reports that he was due to sign for Wigan, he siad that he had spoken to no one at the club and that he has 2 years to run on his Wire contract and he is going nowhere, End of said he .

The final match of the season at the Halliwell Jones Stadium is set to be a sell out in all home areas. * 250 tickets in the Primetime Stand (South) * Odd seats available in the North and Martin Dawes Stand (no seats together) There are tickets still available in the West Stand – the away support. Tetley's search for the Warrington Wolves Super League Legend has ended with cult hero Lee Briers receiving the majority vote from the Wolves fans who voted in their masses for the number 6. Tetley's, the official beer of the Warrington Wolves, launched the competition earlier this season with fans given the option of voting for the player they think has excelled most over the past decade of Super League action. Greats such as Nathan Wood, Mark Hilton and Allan Langer were short-listed but it was the fans-favourite, Briers, who came out on top. Douglas Hegg from Appleton was one of the fans who picked Lee as his Super League Legend and was lucky enough to present the man himself with a special trophy, as well as being given a crate of beer on behalf of Tetley's. Legend Briers, 28, said, "To be voted Tetley's Super League Legend for the club is a fantastic honour and I am delighted to have received the award especially as there were so many great names competing with me. I appreciate anything that the fans are associated with, as they have always stuck by me, and I would like to thank them and Tetley's for the award." Gareth Roberts, Sponsorship Controller Carlsberg UK, commented: "I would like to congratulate Lee on becoming the Tetley's Wolves Super League Legend. He thoroughly deserves the award for his performances in recent years, scoring hundreds of vital points for the team. We wish Lee and the rest of the squad well for the remainder of the season."

Barnett put Warrington in front on 12 minutes as he climbed above Shaun Briscoe to collect Briers' high kick. Bridge showed surprising strength to burst out of a series of attempted tackles to touch down six minutes before half-time. Super League At The Millennium Stadium Millenium Stadium Cardiff To accommodate a competitive International fixture mid-season, 2007 will see a reduction in the number of league games played from 28 to 27. Mark Hilton calls it a day. Mark Hilton is to finish playing Rugby league and is to take up a teaching post at Great Sankey High School as a mathematics teacher, his only regret is leaving rugby with an injury which prevents him from seeing out the season. I am sure you will all join me in wishing him every success in his new career.

Mike Forshaw has issued a rallying call to the Wire squad for Sundays game against Hull at the The Halliwell Jones Stadium KO 3pm, the defeat at Leeds was a poor display and he is urging the players to show pride in the shirt in front of the home fans on Sunday. The following week we meet the league leaders St Helens and said Forshaw we have to put on a show against these teams. Paul Rauhihi makes his return after suspension and should add some weight to the pack he could replace Paul Wood who had to go off at Leeds with a shoulder problem, Stuart Reardon will probably return but Brent Grose could miss another week.

Rumours persisted at the beginning of the week that Wigan were chasing Martin Gleeson, well that's all they were rumours as Simon Moran said on Radio Manchester last week he aint going nowhere, now that is poor English.

4th September.A Major Player. Harry Major, the former Warrington, Wigan and Lancashire forward, has died at the age of 68. He was a key figure in the second row in the Wire team who reached the Lancashire Cup final in 1959 and the Championship final in 1961. Warrington were the underdogs on both occasions but beat St Helens 5-4 in the Lancashire Cup final before losing 25-10 to a Lewis Jones-inspired Leeds in the Championship final. Both games attracted massive crowds, with 39,237 witnessing the Lancashire Cup final at Wigan's Central Park when Brian Bevan scored the only try and 52,177 packing into Bradford's Odsal Stadium for the Championship final. Major's Warrington career lasted just five years, from his debut as a teenager in 1957 to his final appearance in 1962, but yielded 150 appearances and 15 tries. He was transferred to Oldham in 1962 and went on to play for Wigan (50 appearances) and Leigh (55 appearances) and represent Lancashire in a career that continued until 1969. While at Leigh, he played in the 1968 BBC2 Floodlit Trophy final against Castleford at Headingley alongside future Warrington stars Alex Murphy and Kevin Ashcroft. "When he played at Wigan I played against him for Leigh and he was a hard bugger," said Ashcroft. "Then, of course, he came to Leigh when Murphy took over as coach. Murph signed Laurie Gilfedder and Major and they had a couple of great seasons. "Harry was a hard lad and a good footballer too. I rated him very highly and he looked after me. I was hooking and you needed someone to look after you and Harry never failed in that. He always got stuck in, no messing. "Harry was a good trainer, but everybody was a good trainer then. You were working as well and once you had done a shift it was a release to go for a run and get a bit of fresh air. Ninety per cent of us worked in factories and engineering works so it was just nice to get out and get some shorts on. We enjoyed it more than work. "There is no question about it, Harry was a top club man. He was never late for training and if the team played 40 games in a season Harry would play in all 40. He was never injured. "I remember when we played Featherstone everybody on the field was fighting except the two touch judges. I think that was Harry's second game for Leigh. A whale of a day that was." Major's son, David, continued the family love affair with rugby league by playing for Salford in the 1980s after graduating through the junior set-up at Crosfields. Gary Slater.

1st September. Leeds 54 Warrington.16. Jekyll and Hyde make an appearance once again for the Wire, we can only look forward to the playoffs with trepidation unless we fail at the last. Remarked Coach Cullen "Warrington coach Paul Cullen: "The scoreline always reflects the game. "It reflects our inability to maintain any level of discipline for sustained periods. "We lost the penalty count and we were punished every time we erred. "You can't play without the ball, field position and pressure. I'm surprised we've scored as many points as we have. We've got a lot of work to do."
